One of the greatest challenges to owning a 780 is finding replacement parts. It isn’t uncommon to come across a “totaled” 780, which only had minor bumper damage. Something as basic as a bumper replacement can cost an insurance company more than the value of the car.
While the 780 is based on the 760 and shares a common engine and transmission components, virtually all of the interior and body panels are unique. With only some 5,700 imported to the USA, twenty plus years ago, parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
With the bankruptcy of Bertone and the limited supply available from Volvo classic parts, the inventory is limited, and very expensive from a dealer or parts retailer.
